Semicon 2002 Expo Taipei german version

We have to set-up our booth #3631 at the Semicon 2002 in the World
Trade Center hall 2. But first lets find hall 2!

Search is somehow influenced by the view on the coming worldwide tallest building. It shall pass the 500 meter mark without even counting the usual antenna towers on top. During a recent slight earthquake both cranes on top of the building had collapsed and fallen down on street level. There nearby our hall 2 should be located?

Ok, here we are at the entrance to hall 2, but too bad its hall 1.
Fortunatelly we can pass through airconditioned hall 1 to reach hall 2. We have to pass in between through a giant parking lot, the sun hits vertical and ambient temperature is 32 (rather 33) degrees centigrade.

And again this huge tower under construction closing in on us. The image perspective somehow softens the impression.

The booth is found. The airfreighted container with the exhibition
goods seems to be ok and unfeathered by customs inspection.

Do we have an aircon problem in hall 2? Yes, aircon is not operating, accordingly the interior temperatures are sauna like and, sorry, bodies react like in a sauna having some physical exercises.

The exhibition goods are now inside the booth. But where are the power outlet strips? Probably at home in Rapperswil. So lets crawl through one of the many night markets and get them there.

Everything is availble at the night market, but power strips, none to see. Well, let's try a computershop. Our wish for 10 ac power leads is not realy understood, but computers, thats what we are asked to buy. Ordinary Taiwanese are not too good in English and our Mandarin is terrible non-existant. Paper and pencil and a few drawings and we have the needfull.

Sunday September 15th, 2002
Final installation of gas hoses and power leads inside the booth display tables. There is a power supply problem. Solved by the boss himself.

The booth is ready and all system on go.

What the hell is that noise?
A sophisticated booth two alleys down from our location collapses.

Back in the hotel tired legs are relaxed at the pool.

Now already late on Sunday evening. There are still a few gadgets to be bought for friends, so back again in one of the night markets. Show will open on Monday 10AM, hopefully we will get a good night's sleep.

 Monday, September 16th 2002
Probably this report will be continued in the following days. Just forgot to mention, this Sunday morning there was a slight earthquake in Taipei area.

Monday passed away (yes passed away). It was not worth to keep Monday alive, the visitor numbers in hall 2 of Semicon 2002 had been disappointing low. Actually it developed into a cross booth visit happening of the hall 2 exhibitors. Very similar to the Semicon 2001 of last year in Singapore. Otherwise the sky was dark blue and hot again. The aircon in hall 2 was up and on full power, as if the heat of Sunday should be or could be compensated.

The rest of the report is only available in German (partial Swiss-german) language. It simply deals with a Swiss politician (well known and discussed at home). In short, he is for a very strict
immigration ruling in Switzerland.

That was Monday. No images today.

Thursday, half way through the exhibition, Semicon ends on Wednesday, was as the second day of an exhibition mostly is, relatively brimming with visitors.

"East meets West". Our two attractive booth ladies combined Mandarin, English, German and French language knowledge. To draw attention our two Apple LapTops had to hardly compete with their Video application clips.

As language can't transport the message, probably a sketch or drawing will do it?

The exhibition is over. Visitor numbers dropped as expected. Hall 2 is compared to hall 1 of Semicon 2002 Taipei in a disadvantage. Next year the exhibition shallbe in a new exhibition centre? This the only way we would consider to go to semicon 2003 in Taipei next year.
